Te Rakau Macrocarpa
Stuart Ian Frost is a British artist based in Norway. Stuart came to Wharepuke for the Dalton Trust residency in August 2023.
He worked with a dead macrocarpa that had been deliberately left only partly felled in the hope that someone would come and use it at a later dat. We were delighted that Stuart chose the tree for his work.
Land art in bold dialogue with the surroundings is part of Frost’s artistic signature and the work Te Rakau Macrocarpa stands in a special position in this respect.
Alienated, naked and vulnerable to all kinds of creeps, yet dressed as if on its way to a mysterious ceremony. The best is if you stumble upon it on the trail. Suddenly you don’t know if it’s you experiencing the tree, or the tree you.
